North England – Lake District

A night at Waterside House campsite on the shore of Ulswater. Great campsite, almost empty, Lou loved her swimming, well not much swimming…. It chucked it down overnight but somehow we missed the rain during the day. Walked up to Pooley Bridge which was destroyed by Storm Desmond in 2015.

Italy – near Bergamo

Two nights at Camping Covelo on the south shore of Lago d’Iseo, to the east of Bergamo. We were lucky enough to get a pitch right on the lakeside. Hired some canoes and went paddling on the lake. Then off further north into the Dolomites.

Switzerland – Geneva

Four nights at TCS campsite on the shore of Lake Geneva. It was a fab place but still boiling hot. Had a look round Geneva and went to Cern with Toby to do a guided tour, including a visit to the Atlas accelerator, which was pretty cool.

France – Peigney

This was our 1st night on the way down to Geneva. We stayed at a Camper van village overlooking Lac de la Liez, just outside Langres. It was baking hot, there was a European heatwave going on! We moved Toby into his house outside Geneva, just over the Swiss border in France.

Skye – back via Fort William

One night at Linnhe Holiday Park on Loch Eil. Stopover before heading to the visitors centre at Ben Nevis. Up the Tourist Track, over the top and down the Carn Mor Dearg Arete. A long day, started up at 7am, didn’t get back till 6pm. Then back to stay overnight at Liverpool, and home the next day.

Skye – Glenbrittle

Three nights at amazing campsite with views over Loch Brittle and up to the Cuillins. Up to the top of Sgurr Alisdair, highest point on the Cuillin ridge, via The Great Stone Chute. Ferry from Armadale to Mallaig, silver sandy beach at Morar.

Skye – Dunvegan

Camping on the edge of Loch Dunvegan. Saw another yellow VW, but also lots of white motor homes and we were right next to the toilet block…. Off to Glen Brittle.

Skye – Sligachan

Two nights at a brilliant little campsite at the famous Sligachan Hotel. Failed attempt at Sgurr nan Gillean, unprepared for the lack of paths up high and didn’t know where I was going. Old Man of Storr and then off to Dunvegan.

Scotland – Durness

Two nights at Sango Sands campsite in Durness. Another great campsite, with some new facilities being built. Howling gale on top of the hill, moved down the hill a bit but still thought we were going to be blown off the cliff! Fantastic views, went to Smoo Cave, and a minibus to Cape Wrath. Headed home in one day.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Overnight at Highfield House Caravan site, campsite at Flockton, near the YSP. Gently sloping site, there was a funky little classic folding tent being pulled by a Morris Minor.

Italy – Valnontey, Cogne, Aosta

Three nights at Lo Stambecco campsite, on the edge of the Gran Paradiso Park. Fantastic site, multi-tiered on the side of the hill. Walked up about 1000m into the mountains. Then headed north over the Gran San Bernard Pass into Switzerland.
