Stopover in Liverpool, then 2 nights at Chapel House Farm Camp Site just down the road from Borrowdale, and a couple of miles from Honister slate mine. Back to basics site with no hook up or marked pitches. Stayed with Charlotte and Bez, red and yellow vans together. Plunge pool dip. Then on Sunday an early dip in Derwent Water and then breakfast at Crummock Water. The boys went to Honister to do the Via Ferrata Extreme which was pretty good – steep ladders, overhangs and a really wobbly wire bridge. On Monday went to Bassenthwaite Lake, accessed down a small lane to the private Scarness Campsite. Saw a procession of military helicopters on a training mission. Back to Liverpool and then home.
